2015 ASI Conference Call for Presentation Proposal

THE STATE OF THE ART

American Society for Indexing — 2015 Conference

Seattle, Washington, April 30–May 1

IMG_2022_1The state of the art of indexing and the publishing world is in constant flux, and keeping up with the evolution of the field requires lifelong learning. The primary source for information and education about indexing is the American Society for Indexing (ASI). At our annual conferences we present sessions on the best and most up-to-date advances in indexing as an information organization and retrieval resource. In 2015 we will host the conference at Motif Seattle in the heart of Seattle, Washington, just five minutes from Pike Place Market.

To that end, we are calling for presenters with original, challenging, fresh ideas about the state of the art of indexing and its place in the publishing world. Whether you are an indexer with valuable practical knowledge, an academic with an interesting theoretical approach, or a publisher with a different perspective, we’d like to hear from you. Chapters and SIGs of ASI are especially encouraged to consider presenting at the conference.

In particular, we are looking for:

  • Software and technological presentations
  • Ebook publishing stories and techniques
  • Updates on indexing in specialty fields (law, archaeology, etc.)
  • Favorite (and not-so-favorite) projects that came with new and unusual and challenges
  • “Walk us through it” workshops addressing practical applications of new techniques and softwares
  • Short presentations in any format: posters, debates, question-and-answer sessions, short lectures, slide shows.

Program timing and format

The Conference will host three types of programs. Seminars will last one and a half hours, including time for questions. Workshop presenters will have a three-hour time slot, allowing for one scheduled break and question periods. A one and one half hour plenary session will be designated as an Indexing Slam!, a kind of “open mike” forum where attendees may present a quick talk, have a debate, display a poster, etc. Indexing Slam! Participants will have 10-15 minutes to present.
