Musical Indexers. Can you sing or play an instrument? If so, we can make beautiful music together. Join your colleagues for an informal music-making session after hours (probably on Thursday, June 10). If you sing or play an instrument, let's have some fun. All ranges of abilities welcome. What kind of music? All kinds. Pop, classical, jazz, folk, barbershop, swing, whatever.

Do you have to sign up first? Sort of. We'll need to get an idea beforehand of how much participation to expect and what kinds of music we'll be enjoying. Some music types require printed music, and it would be nice to get some of that organized before we arrive in Indianapolis. Also, you may find that there are others with whom you can join for duets, trios,
quartets, etc.

Contact Karen Lane (klane@digital.net) if you sing, and Marilyn Rowland (marisol@marisol.com) if you play an instrument. Remember, we're looking for amateurs. You don't have to be a professional musician; you just have to love making music.

Macmillan Tour. Indexers  and editors attending the Indianapolis Conference will have a unique opportunity on Wednesday afternoon. They will be able to take a tour through Macmillan Computer Publishing, which is a part of Pearson Education.

The tour is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. We will be leaving the Crowne Plaza Union Station Hotel around 2:00 and  arriving at Macmillan around 2:30 in the afternoon.

There will be a tour of production and some areas of interest in the company, following a brief presentation by the production department about Macmillan. The editorial manager will also give a short presentation on indexes and what they contribute to a book and what the relationship is between the in-house indexers and the book editor.

This tour was arranged by Joelynn Gifford at Macmillan.

The costs for this tour will be for transportation to and from Macmillan. Anyone who would like to take this tour should contact Sandi Schroeder at 847-303-0989 or sanindex@schroederindexing.com. You will also be able to sign up at the conference, but it would be helpful to know how many people would like to go so that transportation can be arranged.

Macmillan will also be giving two presentations at the Friday general sessions.

In Editorial Production Process, several members of the Macmillan Training Team will give a presentation on the development stages of a book from an idea to its delivery to the printer. They will discuss the organizational structure of the editorial areas and the editorial functions. This group is responsible for the training of all editorial people at Macmillan.

Embedded Indexing will cover the process Macmillan uses to index their books and why they feel embedding entries has been successful for them.

IDG Books Worldwide, Inc. and York Graphics Services Inc. will be sponsoring the Networking Suite on Friday, June 11 from 1-4. Please stop by for the opportunity to have refreshments and conversation with IDG, York and other indexers.

Psychology/Sociology Special Interest Group (and any interested indexers) will meet on Thursday, June 10, at 5:45 pm in the hotel lobby to go out to supper and make plans for the coming year. Contacts are Becky Hornyak at bhornyak@iquest.net  and Margie Towery at MTowery@aol.com

The Heartland Chapter is planning to meet for breakfast on Friday, June 11. No more details available at this time. Contacts are Diane Worden at WordenDex@aol.com and Margie Towery at MTowery@aol.com

The ASI Web Site Committee will meet for breakfast on Friday, June 11 at 7 am, probably in the hotel coffee shop. Potential Committee members and interested others are welcome. Contact Marilyn Rowland
