- Basic Indexing Workshop - Kay Schlembach
Newer indexers as well as others needing a refresher will value this
opportunity to build, review, and reinforce their fundamental skills.
Either by itself, or in conjunction with the USDA beginning indexing

for classic back-of-the-book indexing techniques covers alphabetization,
format, entry, cross-references, and simple editing. Our journey will
also touch on embedded indexing. The workshop is conducted in morning

Using a hands-on approach and excerpts from a variety of texts, we will
explore such factors as user requirements, author vocabulary, multi-author
texts, concept interdependence and primary sources. Practical exercises
will form the basis for discussion of the issues surrounding subject
analysis and index structure. Suitable for experienced and novice indexers.
