American Society of Indexers (ASI)
Indexing and Abstracting Society of Canada (IASC/SCAD)
Joint Annual Meeting and Conference
15–17 June 2006
Toronto, Ontario
Overview
We are excited to have this year's annual meeting and conference in Toronto, Ontario.
Toronto is an astonishing and eclectic mosaic of people and languages, cultures and lifestyles, all in one clean, safe, friendly place. It's a North American city of rare openness, energy, and style. Its skyline includes the CN tower, considered one of the Modern Wonders of the World, and its miles of waterfront, beaches, boardwalks and trails perfectly complement Toronto's bustling downtown core.
Plans for the conference are well underway, with an active calls for presentations, papers, and poster sessions. We've negotiated some great rates at the hotel, and the Toronto Pearson International Airport is less than 90 minutes away from over 60% of the U.S. population. Toronto is also Canada's most international city, which is perfect for us because our meeting is the triennial international conference among the indexing societies. We expect delegates from around the world.
We hope you can join us this year. You don't want to miss what is becoming the biggest, most exciting, and most rewarding conference so far.

The conference hotel is the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre located in the Financial District and connected to the Eaton Centre shopping complex. The hotel is a short walk from theatres, sports venues, and fine restaurants. ASI has reserved a block of sleeping rooms at a discounted rate at the Marriott, allowing ASI the use of the meeting and exhibit space at a
great discount. Your support in staying at the Marriott helps to keep ASI's meeting and membership costs down. We've negotiated a rate of $169 Canadian, approximately $147 US single/double occupancy per night (plus applicable taxes) for the conference period, an excellent value for this city.
Reservations Deadline
The hotel reservations deadline for our room block is May 23, 2006; rooms will be on a space-available basis after that date. The designated link above will allow you to assess room availability and book your reservations directly with the Marriott by searching with the group code listed. To make reservations by phone, call Marriott reservations toll-free at (800) 905-0667, and identify yourself as an ASI/American Society of Indexers meeting attendee. Please be sure to book your rooms early - the number of rooms is limited!
Transportation from Airport to Hotel
If you are flying into the main Toronto airport (Pearson Airport, code YYZ), there are several ways to travel to the conference hotel. The Marriott estimates the one-way costs of traveling from Pearson as $2 by bus, $2.25 by subway, and $40 by taxi. (All prices are in Canadian dollars.) The buses and subways in Toronto are excellent throughout the city. Driving directions and
other details are available at the hotel maps page.
Another option is the privately operated Pacific Western Airport Express from Pearson International Airport to certain downtown hotels. They don't stop at our conference hotel, Eaton Centre Marriott, but their Metropolitan Hotel stop (near the bus terminal) is a walkable city-block away from the Eaton Centre. Cost one-way for adult: $16.45. Round-trip fare: $28.35. Buy on-line and get 10% discount. Phone toll-free in Canada 1-800-387-6787 or not toll free from the U.S. 1-905-564-3232.

Presentations and Papers
Some presentation handouts are now available for download.
We are looking for presentations, workshops, and panels on any number of index- and information-related topics.
In addition, we are expanding our offerings for poster sessions by accepting papers as well. All papers submitted that meet our guidelines will be published in an online, post-conference book of proceedings. All papers will also be considered for poster sessions, which will be displayed during the conference. (Authors who attend the conference to support their papers receive precedence.) This is a great opportunity to share knowledge not only on indexing, but also on non-indexing topics of interest to indexers.
Please review the Call for Presentations and Papers, and contact us if you have any questions. Get writing!
